Daymaker for Attio
Set up the Attio app
Send a custom cake, baked by a local bakery and delivered by hand, to anyone in your Attio workspace. Research a gift they would love, follow every cake to the door, and automate both with Attio workflows.
What the app does
- Send a Daymaker on every person. A custom cake with your words piped on top in icing and a card in the box, baked by a local bakery and handed over at the door. Daymaker quotes the real local price before you confirm.
- A Daymaker tab on every person. The cakes sent to them from your workspace, each followed from payment to the door with the bakery's photo, and their gift research.
- Research a gift. Daymaker reads what a person shares in public and picks a gift built on it, for one person or for everyone you select in a list. The result is written onto the person.
- Workflow blocks. Send a Daymaker and Research a gift with Daymaker steps, and a Daymaker cake update trigger that starts a workflow when a cake is paid, scheduled, out for delivery, delivered or not delivered.
Cakes and research are only started by you, or by a workflow you build. Workflows cannot send cakes or start research until a workspace admin turns each one on.
Before you start
- A Daymaker account. Sign up at daymaker.com if you do not have one.
- You are the owner or an admin of that Daymaker account. The key you make decides which account pays for cakes and research, so members cannot make one.
- In Attio, a workspace admin to install the app and add its connection.
- Cakes are delivered where Daymaker has a local bakery. See the delivery zones.
Install and connect
- In Attio, open Settings, then Apps, find Daymaker and install it.
- In Daymaker, open Settings, then Integrations, and press Connect on the Attio row. Copy the key. It is shown once.
- Back in Attio, open the Daymaker app's settings and add the key as the app's connection. Daymaker checks the key before Attio saves it, and Attio keeps it encrypted. The app then adds the Daymaker attributes to people, so you can build views and workflows on them straight away.
- The Attio row in Daymaker now shows your workspace as connected. Press Check connection on the app's settings page in Attio any time to see which Daymaker account the workspace uses.
A key made before the app could send cakes still researches, but cannot send cakes or follow them. Make a new key on the Attio row in Daymaker and replace the app's connection with it.
Send a Daymaker
- Open a person and choose Send a Daymaker from the record's actions, or press CMD+K and search for it.
- Check the recipient and address. They come from the person, or from their company when the person has no street address. With no street address at all, leave it empty, add the company's website and press Send cake: Daymaker first reads the addresses the company publishes, shows where each one came from, and you pick the right one. A street address you type is always used instead.
- Pick a size, write the words for the cake (up to 60 characters, piped by hand), and add a card, a signature, a delivery date and a note for the driver if you like.
- Press Send cake. Daymaker shows the size, the local price delivered, the address and the day, and asks you to confirm.
If your Daymaker account has enough credit to cover it, the cake is paid and ordered the moment you confirm. Otherwise you get a Stripe payment link, and the bakery is briefed as soon as it is paid. If no bakery delivers to the address, the bakery needs more notice for that day, or it does not make that size, the app says so and nothing is charged.
If Daymaker is slow to answer, Send a Daymaker sends nothing new to that person until that order has been checked, or let go once it can no longer be checked. Whoever opens it on them next sees that order first:
- No answer yet: the dialog shows the order with Check it, which sends that same order to Daymaker again, so Daymaker answers about that order rather than taking a new one. If it never arrived, it is ordered then.
- Ordered, but nobody saw it: the dialog opens on the cake, with its order number or payment link.
- Cannot be checked (more than 23 hours old, sent with a different Daymaker key, or the app's note of it could not be read): the app says so. Look for it in your Daymaker account, then choose Send a new cake.
The form also says when the person's last cake order was placed, whoever placed it. Workflow sends follow their own rules, below.
Cakes sent from Attio can add up to $2,000 in any 24 hours, across everyone in the workspace. Write to contact@daymaker.com to change that.
The Daymaker tab
Every person record has a Daymaker tab. It lists the cakes sent to them from your workspace with where each one is: waiting for payment, paid, scheduled, delivered or not delivered. Each cake shows its order number and total, the payment link while one is open, and the bakery's photo once it has landed. Below the cakes is the person's gift research, with Research a gift to start it or run it again. Until the app's connection is added, the tab says so instead.
Research a gift
- Open a person and choose Research a gift.
- Pick the campaign, the depth (Scout or the deeper Investigation) and a gift price, and add anything Daymaker should know, such as the occasion.
- Press Research a gift. The result shows in the dialog, on the Daymaker tab, and in the Daymaker research widget, which you can add to the record page with Configure page.
To research many people at once, select them in any list or view and choose Research gifts for these people. People Daymaker already researched are not researched or billed again. Research uses your Daymaker research credits.
Workflows
In Attio, open Workflows and add a block. The Daymaker blocks are listed under Daymaker.
Send a Daymaker
Choose the person (usually a person from the trigger), the size, the words on the cake, and optionally a card, a signature, a delivery date and a note for the driver. The address comes from the person or their company; when neither has a street address, Daymaker uses an address from the company's website only if it is sure of it. The step ends on one of three outcomes:
- Sent: the cake is paid and with the bakery. Carries the Daymaker gift ID, order number and total.
- Waiting for payment: carries the payment link, so a later step can send it to whoever pays.
- Not sent: carries the reason, such as an address no bakery delivers to. Nothing was charged.
Workflow sends and the daily limit
No workflow can send a cake until a workspace admin turns on Let workflows send cakes in the Daymaker app's settings in Attio. Workflows then send at most the number of cakes set in Most cakes workflows can send in a day (10 unless you change it), counted per day in UTC across every workflow in the workspace. A send that stops, for an address no bakery delivers to for example, counts toward the limit too. A send past the limit ends on Not sent with the reason. The count belongs to the Daymaker key: replacing the app's connection during a day starts it again.
Research a gift with Daymaker
Research uses your Daymaker research credits, so no workflow can start it until a workspace admin turns on Let workflows research people in the Daymaker app's settings. Choose the person, the depth, the gift price, and whether to find a gift as well. The step ends on Started, with the research ID and whether the person was already researched, or Not started, with the reason, such as research credits used up for now. The finished research is written onto the person.
Daymaker cake update
A trigger. Choose when it starts a workflow: when a cake is delivered, not delivered, scheduled by the bakery, out for delivery, or paid. Only cakes sent from your Attio workspace start it, and each update starts a workflow once, even after you publish a new version of it. The run gets the person, the status, the order number, the scheduled date, when the cake was delivered, the bakery's photos, and why it was not delivered when it was not.
What the app writes on people
The app adds these attributes to the people object when you add its connection, and again if one goes missing. Renaming one in Attio is fine: the app writes to it by its slug.
| Attribute | Written when |
|---|---|
| Daymaker cake status | A cake is ordered, and at each step of its trip to the door |
| Daymaker cake ordered on | A cake is ordered |
| Daymaker cake delivered on | The cake is delivered. Emptied when a new cake is ordered |
| Daymaker gift idea, Daymaker why this gift, Daymaker gift link | Research finds a gift |
| Daymaker research summary, Daymaker researched on | Research finishes |
| Daymaker reply, Daymaker replied on | The sender records in Daymaker that the person replied |
The status and dates follow the person's most recent cake. The Daymaker tab lists their ten most recent cakes.
Permissions and data
Each permission the app asks Attio for, and what it is used for:
| Permission | Used for |
|---|---|
record_permission:read-write | Reading the person and their company for a cake or research, and writing the Daymaker attributes onto the person |
object_configuration:read-write | Creating the Daymaker attributes on the people object |
note:read-write | Saving research as a note on the person, when you choose to |
The app sends Daymaker only what the thing you asked for needs. For a cake, that is the recipient's name, company, address, phone and email, used for the delivery and a heads-up the day before. For research, it is the name, company, job title, location, LinkedIn and other public profiles, and the description on the record. Your Daymaker key is kept by Attio as an encrypted connection and is only used by the app's server code. Orders and research are kept in your Daymaker account. Terms: daymaker.com/terms. Privacy: daymaker.com/privacy.
Disconnect and uninstall
Removing the app's connection in Attio stops the app, asks Daymaker to stop sending it updates, and stops the Daymaker cake update workflows. Pressing Disconnect on the Attio row in Daymaker revokes the key Connect made: within a few minutes the app stops writing to your people, starting workflows and sending cakes, and it cannot reach Daymaker until a new key is added. A key that was not made by Connect stays live until you revoke it from the API keys list on the same page. Replacing the key with a new one moves your Daymaker cake update workflows onto it: up to five straight away, and the rest over the next hours as the app is used. To remove the app entirely, uninstall it from Settings, then Apps, in Attio.
Cakes, research and people already in Daymaker stay in your Daymaker account. The Daymaker attributes already written to people stay in Attio until you delete them there.
